It’s time to bring the real back!
We all love a great come up story, especially being that many turn to Hip-Hop as a motivational soundtrack to their everyday lives. 19 year old Harlem native TJ Porter, is the epitome of thus. Porter decided to hang up his basketball jersey and pick up a pen, as he felt his music career might help him advance quicker and further than basketball after injury.
It wouldn’t exactly be politically correct for a Harlem bred artist to not reflect where they come from. Porter’s name is a play off of the late great Richard “Richie” Porter (if you know, then you know), a Harlem legend. Porter’s melodic style can be compared to other “singer” styled rappers who dip and dabble with auto tune, much like Harlem’s own Max Biggavel. His style is very much New York , as his pen seems to pull inspiration from various eras of classic Harlem hip hop greats: Big L, Mase and Dipset to say the least.
While Porter has dropped a few projects along the way, the one that really took the streets by storm was his 2018 track Tricky. Porter’s biggest record Harlem, comes off of his latest album Voice of the Trenches. This project is compiled of 14 tracks that will without doubt make you a fan.
