The Cool Kids & The Alchemist - Layups (EP)

“WTF is this!?”

In case y’all missed it, The Cool Kids came out of their hiatus to release a 3-piece EP called Layups. Chuck Inglish briefly hinted at the project earlier this year on Twitter, and, if you follow Sir Michael Rocks’ Twitch stream, you may have heard snippets of it there. Instead of Chuck Inglish handling most of the production this time, they teamed up with legendary producer The Alchemist, who seems to be on fire this summer with his latest releases.

The entire project comes in at less than ten minutes and is worth sparing time for. Mikey and Chuck both have some smooth raps in store, and Boldy James as well as Shorty K, both featured on past Cool Kids projects, make guest appearances. The two tracks I like the most are the titular ‘Layups’ and ‘Polansky’. Polansky is easily my favorite. The beat is a jazzy, cooled down production that sets the tone for some lowkey Black Air Force activity. Boldy James delivered some dope rhymes.

Be on the lookout for some more heat from The Cool Kids later this year, since they’ve teased a song with Kenny Beats and a new project after that coming soon.
